Public School Withdrawal Letter Generator

Enrolling with Ascend STEM Academy? Florida law requires you to notify your child's current public school in writing.

This letter is a template based on general Florida withdrawal requirements and is not legal advice. Some counties require additional forms or specific submission methods (mail, portal, or in person) — check with your local district office. We recommend sending by certified mail and keeping a copy for your records.

What else might my district need?

This letter covers the notification Florida law requires, but individual districts sometimes ask for a bit more. Here's what to watch for:

  • A district-specific withdrawal form or portal step. Some counties want the letter mailed to the superintendent, others require an in-person visit or an online portal submission instead. Check your district's Home Education or Student Records page.
  • Proof of new enrollment. Many districts — and scholarship programs like Step Up For Students — want confirmation that your child is actually enrolled somewhere else, with a start date, so the withdrawal isn't flagged as truancy. Ascend STEM Academy can provide an enrollment verification letter for this once you're enrolled.
  • Student ID number. Some districts ask for it if you have it, but it's not required to submit your withdrawal notice.
  • Certified mail or tracked delivery. Recommended so you have proof of the date your district received the letter. Keep a copy for your own records.
